Old Bergen Road is located in the Greenville Section of Jersey City, New Jersey, and is designated Hudson County Route 601. It runs between Kennedy Boulevard at the north and County Route 707 (Merritt Street) to the south at Curries Woods. (Its southern terminus is a short street that runs parallel to the original Lehigh Valley Terminal Railway tracks, New Jersey Route 185, New Jersey Turnpike Newark Bay Extension (I-78), all of which create a physical de facto border with Bayonne.)[2] [3]

The road takes its name from the 17th century settlement Bergen which was part of the province of New Netherland.[4] and ran (along with today's Bergen Avenue) between the village at Bergen Square and the community of Pamrapo. The southern end of Old Bergen Road near Danforth Avenue creates Greenvilles shopping and commercial district.[5] which is a short distance from Garfield Avenue, which itself is a former colonial post road later named Bergen Point Plank Road.

The former Greenville Hospital and the Afro-American Historical Society Museum at the Miller Branch of the Jersey City Public Library are located nearby its northern end. The road creates the eastern border of the city square Columbia Park. Saint Ann's Home for the Aged has been located on the street since 1911.[6] The Greenville Garage of New Jersey Transit is located near its Gates Avenue bus line terminus.[7].Buses for routes 6, 43, 80, 81, 87, 120, 126 are house there. New Jersey Transit #80 and 87 originate/terminate at Old Bergen Road and Gates Avenue.[8][9][10] A&C Bus Corporation runs the Bergen Avenue line to Journal Square along the avenue.

The southern end of Old Bergen Road near Danforth Avenue creates Greenvilles shopping and commercial district.[11]
